COURSE SUMMARY

Quantity surveyors manage and control financial aspects of the construction process and may also specialise in construction contract law, insurance and procurement. They work on behalf of contracting organisations or representatives of the client, aiming to maximise value and ensure that the project is completed within budget.

As quantity surveyors often act as project managers, you will learn how to select, manage and coordinate the resources needed for the completion of a construction project. You will be taught how use to computing resources to financially manage the development, construction and long-term operation of buildings.

YEAR 1 - Foundation Year

The Foundation Year has been designed to bridge the gap between High School and effective Honours Degree Study. The modules focus on the development of key skills, including studying independently and collaboratively, critical thinking, academic and professional writing and quantitative techniques. A key focus of the Foundation Year is a collaborative project, where students will work together to develop solutions to real-world problems. Modules include:

INDUSTRIAL PLACEMENT YEAR

If you are studying full-time, you’ll have the option to take an industrial year-out placement between years three and four. If you wish to take a placement year you will be responsible for securing your own work placement. The university will help you to develop your employability skills and an academic member of staff is appointed to be your placement tutor. Your progress within the placement is monitored by the appointed placement tutor with ‘telephone visits’, visits to your place of employment and the assessment of a written end of placement report which you prepare.

• Statement of Graduation (Secondary School General Certificate)
• High School Diploma with an overall average of 75% over the last three years of high school (years 10, 11 and 12)
• IELTS Academic Test Score of 5.5 minimum, with a minimum of 5.0 in each component.
